Description
Vintage Webra T4-60 10cc four-stroke glow engine, manufactured in Germany by Webra.
A particularly interesting and unusual vintage model aircraft engine from Webra's innovative T4 range. The T4 series was notable for its unconventional rotary-valve four-stroke design rather than using conventional overhead poppet valves. The T4-60 is the approximately 10cc version of the later T4 range and is identified by the WEBRA-T4 marking on the crankcase.
The engine has a 9.95cc displacement, with a 24mm bore and 22mm stroke. Period Webra specifications give approximately 0.95 hp, with an operating range of approximately 2,000–11,000 rpm. The engine uses a cylindrical rotary valve driven mechanically by a toothed belt, which is one of the most distinctive features of the T4 design.
The toothed belt drive is visible on this particular engine because the protective belt cover has been damaged/missing. This should be noted by any prospective buyer, as the exposed belt and valve-drive mechanism will require inspection before the engine is operated. Webra's original instructions specifically describe the toothed-belt drive and provide procedures for belt replacement and correct timing.

The original Webra operating instructions specify propellers including 14×6, 15×6 and 16×4, and recommend methanol-based glow fuel.
This is a used vintage engine with visible age-related cosmetic wear and deterioration. The protective cover for the toothed valve-drive belt is damaged/missing, leaving the belt mechanism exposed. The engine turns over freely, but it has not been tested running. The condition of the belt, rotary valve timing, bearings, carburettor and internal components should therefore be checked before attempting to operate the engine.
A particularly collectible and technically interesting Webra engine, suitable for a vintage R/C aircraft project, restoration, engineering/model-engine collection or display. The unusual rotary-valve and toothed-belt arrangement makes the T4-60 considerably more distinctive than a conventional four-stroke glow engine.
