Zenoah G38 / G380PU 38cc Petrol R/C Aircraft Engine – Japan
Vintage Zenoah G38 38 cc petrol engine for large-scale radio-control aircraft. Japanese-made single-cylinder, air-cooled two-stroke engine from the well-known Zenoah giant-scale R/C range.
The G38 has a displacement of 38 cc (2.3 cu in), with a 38 mm bore and 33 mm stroke. It uses a magneto-driven CDI ignition system, ball-bearing-supported crankshaft and Walbro diaphragm carburettor. The engine is fitted with its ignition system, carburettor, exhaust/muffler and substantial aluminium propeller hub.
Zenoah specified the G38 for large-scale sport and scale aircraft. The manufacturer's recommended benchmark propeller was an 18×10 APC at approximately 7,300 rpm, with an operating range of roughly 2,000–9,000 rpm. The published specification gives approximately 2.2 hp output.
The G38 became a popular powerplant for giant-scale aircraft including Extra 300, Cap 232 and similar aerobatic models, as well as scale aircraft. Its relatively simple mechanical magneto ignition and robust construction made it particularly popular with large-scale R/C enthusiasts.
Condition: Used vintage engine with visible cosmetic wear, oxidation and marks consistent with age and previous use. The engine turns over freely. It has not been tested by me running, so starting and running performance cannot be guaranteed. The ignition wiring should be checked and serviced as necessary before use, and the carburettor/fuel system should likewise be inspected before attempting to run the engine.
A desirable vintage Japanese Zenoah large-scale petrol engine, suitable for restoration, display or use in a suitable giant-scale R/C aircraft.
