RCV 58-CD Four Stroke Glow Engine - Second Hand

RCV 58-CD was the second engine type produced by RCV Engines Ltd, based on its unique gear-driven combined rotary valve and cylinder design. Unlike the original 1999 SP engine range, the cylinder was positioned vertically rather than horizontally, which immediately resolved the overheating issues that had plagued the original SP design.

When RCV Engines Ltd decided to exit the model engine production market, the manufacturing rights for the RCV CD engine range were sold to Alan Greenfield in 2013 for production by his well-known company, Weston UK. However, no one was interested in acquiring the production rights for the horizontal rotary cylinder SP engine range, which is best regarded as a proof-of-concept development engine.

It should be noted that while the RCV 58-CD had fairly low power, it made up for this by being both fuel efficient and quiet. These are ideal attributes for sport flying, where high fuel costs and strict noise limits have had a negative impact on flying model aircraft with internal combustion engines. Electric-powered aircraft may be cheap to run, smoke-free, and quiet, but where is the fun in that?

Alan Greenfield’s extensive knowledge of optimal induction and exhaust timing allowed him to retime the RCV CD engine range to yield a dramatic dramatic increase in power output.
