Description
Myasishchev M-50 [Bounder] prototype supersonic strategic bomber injection plastic kit.
The M-50 is a prototype supersonic strategic bomber manufactured by the Soviet Myasishchev Design Bureau.
In the 1950s, while the Soviet bomber Myasishchev M-4 had a lack of range and the Tu-95 had problems with speed, the United States deployed the Mach 2 B-58 and began development of the Mach 3 XB-70.
In response to this threat, Myasishchev began development of the Mach 2 M-50.
This aircraft was originally planned to be equipped with four VD-7 engines, two of which were VD-7Ms equipped with afterburners, mounted under the wings. However, development of the VD-7 was delayed in time, so the aircraft was quickly fitted with four AM-3 engines, the same as the M-4, and made its first flight in 1959.
Although it was not possible to exceed the speed of sound due to this, desk calculations showed that it was perfectly complete and the test flights were said to have gone very well.
However, by the time this aircraft was released, the age of missiles had arrived, and due to the then Soviet Prime Minister's policy of prioritizing missiles, the development priority was lowered and the plan was canceled.
However, the control system developed for the M-50 was used in later aircraft technology, and the unveiling of the aircraft at an air show made it seem a threat to Western officials, which resulted in the M-50, which was still only a prototype, being given the NATO code name "Bounder."
The kit comes with etched parts and one type of decal.
When completed, the total length will be approximately 399mm and the total width will be approximately 174mm.
Additional items are required to complete kit as illustrated i.e. adhesive, paint, paint brushes, paint cleaner, modelling tools, etc.
