The Messerschmitt Me-163 Komet was a revolutionary German interceptor aircraft used during World War II.

Designed by Alexander Lippisch, it was the first and only operational rocket-powered fighter aircraft.

The Me-163B was the primary production model, notable for its swept-wing design, tailless configuration, and incredible speed, capable of reaching up to 700 mph.

Its rocket engine provided unmatched climbing ability, allowing it to intercept Allied bombers at high altitudes rapidly. However, its short flight duration and challenging landing characteristics, coupled with the dangerous and volatile fuel used, limited its operational effectiveness.

The Me-163S was a dual-seat trainer variant, developed to assist pilots in handling the unique and hazardous flying characteristics of the Komet.

Though innovative, the Me-163's operational impact was limited due to its technical difficulties and the dangerous nature of its propulsion system.

Despite this, it remains a significant milestone in aviation history as the only rocket-powered fighter to see combat.
