Description
Matchbox's very first 1/72 aircraft kit was PK-1 Hawker Fury, introduced in 1972 and retained in the catalogue for many years with different box artwork. The kit contains about 26 parts in coloured plastic plus a clear windscreen, with the biplane fuselage, wings, Rolls-Royce Kestrel engine, cockpit, struts, undercarriage, decals and instructions; two markings were offered, including RAF and Yugoslav examples. The full-size Hawker Fury entered RAF service in 1931 and was Britain's first fighter capable of exceeding 200 mph. It was highly manoeuvrable and famous for aerobatic displays, but by WWII it was obsolete and surviving aircraft were relegated to training. The vintage PK-1 is a particularly recognisable early Matchbox collectible.
