Description
Description
"Vintage Enya 60-4C four-stroke glow engine, manufactured in Japan by Enya Metal Products Co. Ltd. This is the early and highly regarded 60-4C model, introduced in 1982. The engine is clearly marked ENYA 60-4C and MODEL 87001 on the crankcase.
The Enya 60-4C was an important high-performance four-stroke of its period. When tested by Model Airplane News in 1983, it produced an impressive 0.84 bhp at 11,800 rpm, giving it one of the highest specific power outputs of any model four-stroke tested at that time. Its design features a single-cylinder pushrod-operated OHV four-stroke layout, twin camshafts, and a two-ball-bearing crankshaft.
Displacement is 9.953 cc (0.6073 cu in), with a 24 mm bore and 22 mm stroke. Contemporary testing recorded a gross output of 0.84 bhp at 11,800 rpm and a net output of 0.73 bhp at 10,750 rpm. Tested propeller combinations included 14×6 at approximately 8,200 rpm, 13×6 at 8,400 rpm and 12×6 at approximately 9,900 rpm.
This example is in used vintage condition, showing the expected age-related marks, staining and surface discolouration visible in the photographs. The engine turns over freely. It has not been tested running, so the carburettor, valve clearances, bearings, camshaft/timing gears, glow plug and fuel system should be checked before attempting to run it.
A particularly interesting engine for a vintage R/C aircraft, scale project, restoration or model-engine collection. The early 60-4C is now a desirable example of the second generation of Japanese model four-stroke engines."
