Description
Description
Matchbox was particularly good at producing unusual maritime aircraft, and PK-409 is its 1/72 Dornier Do 18 flying boat, originally tooled in 1979 and reissued in 1992 with different box artwork. The kit contains moulded fuselage and flying-boat hull, wings, engine and propeller assemblies, cockpit, crew/detail parts, beaching equipment, clear parts, decals and instructions; the tooling represents the G-1/V-2/D-2 family and the original decal sheet contained three German markings. The Dornier Do 18 first flew in 1935 and was developed from a civil flying-boat design. It was already becoming obsolete when WWII began but served mainly with the Luftwaffe for North Sea maritime reconnaissance, later being relegated to training and sea-rescue duties. This is a less common Matchbox subject and commands a premium over many of the smaller fighters.
