The Cox .049 Babe Bee is a legendary, small-displacement 0.049 cubic-inch (0.8 cm³) two-stroke glow-plug engine introduced in 1956 by L.M. Cox Manufacturing to power model airplanes.
Design: A reed-valve induction two-stroke engine featuring an integrated lightweight metal fuel tank (typically 5cc capacity) and a rear-mounted needle valve.
Operation: Uses a glow head with a platinum-alloy wire coil. Powering the coil with an external 1.5V battery and flipping the propeller starts combustion via a catalytic reaction with methanol/nitro fuel.
Piston/Cylinder Fit: Precision steel piston and cylinder have such tight manufacturing tolerances that piston rings are unnecessary.
Weight: Weighs approximately 1.75 oz.
