The FV4034 Challenger 2 is a third generation British main battle tank in service with the armies of the United Kingdom and Oman. It was designed and built by the British company Vickers Defence Systems. Vickers Defence Systems began to develop a successor to Challenger 1 as a private venture in 1986.

The Challenger II is the British Army’s most advanced main battle tank, entering service in the late 1990s. It was developed by Vickers Defence Systems and has proven its capability in operations in the Balkans, Iraq and beyond. Designed with heavy emphasis on survivability and protection, it features Dorchester composite armour, one of the most effective passive protection systems in the world. Powered by a Perkins CV12 engine, it is armed with the L30A1 120mm rifled gun. Despite its weight, it delivers excellent cross-country performance and crew comfort. Over the years, it has undergone various upgrades to extend its combat effectiveness well into the future, including digital fire control and improved optics.
