Description

The Elefant was a heavy armoured gun/tank destroyer used by the Germans during World War II. The vehicle is still very popular and recognizable among fans of history and military technology. The block model of this very famous vehicle from the Second World War was designed on a scale of 1:28 using 1,252 elements and is an impressive 28.5cm long. The blocks and the figure contain only high-quality prints, as well. You won't find stickers here! The functionalities of the model include a removable block replica of the engine, working tracks, a cannon that can be moved vertically and horizontally, recreated interior elements and opening hatches. The set also includes a detailed figure of a vehicle crew member with accessories like a submachine gun and a canister. The whole set is complemented by a plate with the name of the vehicle printed on it. The detailed and very large model of a heavy tank destroyer is a must-have for collectors and history enthusiasts.

The first version of the German heavy tank destroyer was named Ferdinand after its designer Ferdinand Porsche. A slightly improved version of this vehicle equipped with, among other additions, a machine gun in the front and a commander's cupola was called the Elefant. COBI has designed both versions!

The Panzerjäger Tiger (P) Elefant was constructed on the chassis of the Tiger I tank. Serial production began in 1943, initially under the name Ferdinand. Ferdinands took part in battles on the Eastern Front and during the Battle of Kursk. The tank destroyers were armed with the powerful 88mm PaK 43/2 L/71 anti-tank gun, which made them effective against almost all enemy vehicles. Thick armor also provided good protection for the vehicle. Despite their impressive statistics, Ferdinands also had some drawbacks. These include limited mobility, engine and suspension failures and vulnerability to infantry attacks. After the Battle of Kursk, the 48 surviving vehicles were modernized and renamed Elefant. Additions included improved armor, a machine gun on the front and a commander's cupola and zimmerit. The Elefant was one of the most powerful German vehicles to appear on the battlefield during World War II. However, the role it played in the war was limited due to the small production of this model. Despite this, the vehicle still ignites the imagination of history and military technology enthusiasts. It is also one of the most recognizable vehicles from the Second World War. Build history, piece by piece, with COBI!
