Description
Sova-M 1/72 Voyager Kit 72058
The Rutan Voyager was an American aircraft designed to establish a record for non-stop flight distances and refueling. The plane was constructed as a composite low-wing low-wing structure. The propulsion was provided by two engines located at the front and rear of the hull. The front engine was Teledyne Continental O-240 with 130 HP, and the rear - eledyne Continental IOL-200 with 110 HP. Only one copy of this unique plane was built, which is on display at the National Air above Sapce Musem in Washington.
The Rutan Voyager was designed by Elbert Rutan, who planned to break the record in flight length from the very beginning. The machine was characterized by unprecedented aerodynamic perfection, very low fuel consumption and low curb weight, which was achieved by the use of composites. A large wingspan was also used, with winglets at their ends, so the machine had little aerodynamic drag. The record flight began on December 14, 1986 at Edwards base in California and ended on December 23 of the same year. The machine covered a distance of 40,212 kilometers during this time.
