In 1944, the Henschel company offered the RLM a project for a single-seat fast dive bomber powered by a jet engine. The RLM accepted the machine project — the Junkers Ju 87 type was no longer suitable, but a machine in this category was still required — and in May 1944 ordered the design of the aircraft, along with the construction of six prototypes.
