Description
The Gloster E.28 / 39 (also called "Gloster Whittle", "Gloster Pioneer" and "Gloster G.40") is a British experimental all-metal jet fighter with a three-wheeled undercarriage in a WWII low wing configuration . In total, two copies of this plane were built. The first machine to the research facility in Brockworth was delivered in April 1941, and the first flight of the E.28 / 39 took place on May 15, 1941 with the Power Jets W.1 engine. It lasted 17 minutes. The main task of the aircraft was to test various variants of jet engines in flight. The experiments ended in 1944, and the experience gained from the research on the E.28 / 39 was used on the series-built Gloster Meteor. Technical data: length: 7.74m, wingspan: 8.84m, height: 2.7m, maximum speed: 544km / h, climb speed: 5.9m / s, maximum range: 656km.
