Description

The Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer was a British transport aircraft from the Cold War period. The prototype's flight took place in 1955, and the machine entered production a year later. In total, 87 examples of this aircraft were built. The length of the machine - in the CC Mk. II version - was 13.79 meters with a wingspan of 23.32 meters. The drive was provided by two Alvis Leonides engines, each with a maximum power of 640 HP. The maximum speed of the aircraft was around 265 km / h. The machine did not have a permanent on-board armament.

The aircraft was developed at the Scottish Aviation Limited aviation plant for both civil and military needs - primarily for the British Air Force (RAF). From the beginning, it was assumed that the machine would be the property of STOL, i.e. a shortened take-off and landing route. The machine was able to take up to 13 soldiers or approx. 900 kg of cargo on board. Several development versions were created in the course of production, including: Twin Pioneer CC Mk.1 (first production series for RAF), Twin Pioneer Series 2 (civilian production version with Pratt and Whitney R-1340 engines) or Twin Pioneer CC Mk. 2 (Military Series 3 civil military version). It is worth adding that the plane was exported to many countries around the world, including Australia, Austria, Norway and Canada.
